Wild Donkey
The wild donkey (Equus africanus), also known as the African wild ass, is the ancestor of the domestic donkey and a highly adaptable species found in arid regions of North Africa and the Middle East.
Wild donkeys are herbivorous, feeding on tough grasses, shrubs, and even thorny plants. Their ability to survive in harsh, water-scarce environments is remarkable, making them one of nature’s most resilient animals.
Unlike their domestic counterparts, wild donkeys are solitary or live in small groups. They are fast runners, capable of reaching speeds up to 70 km/h (43 mph), which helps them escape predators like lions and hyenas.
Sadly, wild donkeys are critically endangered due to habitat loss, competition with livestock, and poaching. Conservation programs aim to protect their habitats and reintroduce populations into the wild.
