Brazilian Lemur
The Brazilian lemur, also known as the muriqui (Brachyteles), is a primate native to the Atlantic forests of Brazil. These large, peaceful monkeys are distinguished by their long limbs and prehensile tails, which they use to navigate the treetops.
Muriquis are herbivorous, feeding on leaves, fruits, and flowers. Their social structure is egalitarian, with little aggression between individuals. However, deforestation and habitat fragmentation have made the muriqui one of the most endangered primates in the world. Conservation efforts focus on protecting their forest habitats and ensuring their survival.
